Feel The Heat
Mexico’s oldest wellness tradition allows individuals to sweat it out together. And it’s carried out in the dark. In Los Cabos, you’ll find the temazcal option plus a menu of classic spa treatments at Playa Grande Resort & Grand Spa, ME Cabo, Hacienda Encantada Resort & Spa and Pueblo Bonito Pacífica Golf & Spa Resort.
In perfect harmony with its remote setting along a pristine stretch of beach, just minutes from downtown Cabo San Lucas, the latter’s Zen-evoking design is pure therapy in itself. At Armonia Spa, you’ll reach physical and emotional release through crystal Reiki healing, Watsu water therapy and the Diamond Rose Body — a complete sensory ritual combining facial and body treatments with exfoliation and massage.
The World of Wellness
Rooted in ancient traditions but carried out in the most modern of facilities The Spa at One&Only Palmilla truly lives up to the resort’s name. Highly customized treatments carried out by trained and certified specialists take guests on a personal journey of rejuvenation and renewal. As with everything at this property, there is an impeccable attention to detail, from exclusive use of ESPA products to the expansive facilities, which include hot and cold rock pools, steam rooms, saunas, an outdoor relaxation area, the Yoga Garden, 13 handsomely appointed private treatment villas and beauty and grooming services. The OBO Salon by Jonathan and George is a partnership with celebrity stylists Jonathan Antin and Amanda George. It complements the spa’s Pedi:Mani:Cure Studio by award-winning French podiatrist Bastien Gonzalez and the gentlemen’s private grooming studio, Barber&Blade.
Following an extensive remodel, the Sueños del Mar Spa by Mexsun at Casa del Mar Golf Resort & Spa has refreshed its offerings with a Temazcal room, tailored treatments and a range of yoga and Pilates classes. The Signature Revive, Restore and Girlfriends Getaway packages include a customized lunch menu for meals between services.
“Over the past five years, the trend is in our baby boomer and senior-based services that include lasers, injectables, chiropractors, osteopaths and the use of thermal techniques and bathing facilities,” says Kelli Castineiras, spa administrator. Among these is the 9-1-1 Call the Doctor, which relies on the expertise of a board-certified surgeon and a specialist in anti-aging medicine.
Castineiras lauds the facility’s focus on farm-to-spa-table sourcing and sustainability. “We use indigenous home-grown products from our herb gardens on our Farmesthetics facial product line, which is 100% certified organic herbs, flowers, oils and grains from family farms.”
While spas across the globe have dabbled with wine-infused elements, SOMMA WineSpa at Grand Fiesta Americana Los Cabos All Inclusive Golf & Spa resort is Mexico’s first to fully embrace the vinotherapy concept. Rich in antioxidants, grapes also contain polyphenols that stimulate the body’s immune and vascular systems. The spa’s signature Le Vin Chardonnay rejuvenates with polyphenol-rich products through a combination of Swedish, lomilomi and deep-tissue techniques.
“In our optional ‘Barefoot’ ritual, we introduce our guests to the ‘Harvest Festival’ experience by stomping on grapes and giving them an explanation of its meaning,” says spa manager Claudia Sugey Villalon. “We elevate this by giving a foot massage with a merlot cream and a wine tasting. Good wine, of course, always tastes better with a delightful dinner on the beach.”
Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos has blended chocolate into select Zen Spa services to protect skin against free radicals via the cacao plant’s active antioxidants. “We offer chocolate massages, chocolate scrubs and chocolate wraps,” says Mariana Gil, spa manager.
Gil adds that guests have voiced a growing interest in maintaining wellness routines while traveling. “Part of our mission is to help them accomplish this through programs that include exercise, nutrition and spa treatments.”
The Sea Spa at Grand Solmar Land’s End Resort & Spa Cabo San Lucas catapulted cabana nirvana via intimate retreats tucked directly into cliffs overlooking the resort’s Pacific scenery. Lasting up to three hours, signature therapies merge multi-sensory healing with rejuvenating treatments. Afterwards, guests can continue the bliss with healthy light bites and beverages within their private cabana’s balcony lounge area.
Through sophisticated authentic experiences, Jasha Spa at the JW Marriott Los Cabos harmonizes well-being, discovery, and indulgence. With its widely recognized water passage, The Spa at Esperanza, An Auberge Resort has always been celebrated for its naturally restorative coastal desert environment and handcrafted botanical treatments. Among its signature therapies is the 60-minute Margarita Medley that soothes with a Spagarita during a relaxing foot soak, foot and hand scrub, massage and hydrating wrap. A head and neck massage with a lime facial serve as the grand finale.
Trainer-in-residence programs showcase renowned guest fitness and yoga instructors from top private U.S. health clubs and studios. Guests can enjoy complimentary beach boot camps, TRX training, yoga and other fitness classes led by experts who can also customize private experiences.
Mimicking lunar cycles, Luna y Mar Spa at The Resort at Pedregal beckons guests to take part in therapies that correlate with the phases of the moon. Special rituals and remedies are designed by a Mexican curandera (healer) using folk traditions and hand-harvested organic herbs. Opt for a treatment pod floating on the secluded spa pool or a deluxe couples suite with indoor private hot tub, bathroom, seating area and direct spa pool access. Complimentary personal spa concierges are on hand to customize wellness programs and guide guests through the extensive list of classes.
Aromas of honey, jasmine and vanilla welcome guests who enter The Desert Spa at Villa del Arco Beach Resort & Spa. The largest facility of its kind in Baja California Sur, the 31,000-square-foot sanctuary boasts an impressive hydrotherapy center and takes its inspiration from the fruit and herb extracts native to the region. Elevating romance, the Moonlight Massage is a sumptuous treatment shared in a beachside cabana.
Out in La Paz, CostaBaja Resort & Spa’s Espiritu Spa offers a mystical holistic-reiki concept that fuses aromatherapy with local healing herbs, Bach flowers, reiki and chakra balancing. Prior to each treatment, therapists utilize a bio-tensor to customize one of eight signature blends made of essential oils and Bach flowers.
